Performance for Voice, Water Bottle, and Keyring
Abstract
This performance was broken into two halves. The first was the slow buildup of vocals alongside the rattling of keys and the sloshing of a water bottle.
Vague, tactile noises pair well with the repetitive nature of a loop so my setup was simple.
A single microphone (Shure SM57) paired with a looper/delay pedal (Line 6 DL4), a pitch shifter (Behringer Ultra-Shifter / Harmonizer)
and a flanger/chorus pedal (EHX Electric Mistress) that were all meant to work together to create a warm and overloading environment.
The first half of the performance (above) consists of capturing the source audio that carries throughout the rest of the performance.

Whenever a strong negative/unidentifiable emotion washes over me, leaving me to deal with my own thoughts and nothing else, the sturdiness of the loop and the format's limited, "post-recording" style of variation helps me find sturdy ground.
If soothing loops do a poor job of helping find peace in the moment, the negative thoughts find a way of fogging the rest of my senses. With this kind of sensory blindness, functioning .
The small, chattering sensations that irritate and distract me grow louder and less organized. Eventually, my system of thought turns into chaos and I have to look at something small to get the context of my own life in check. The tactility of jangling keys or liquid

The first bit of audio is my recording of the first act (iPhone 8 placed 15 feet away from source). The second recording is from the same iPhone after I fed the audio back into the microphone to create a feedback loop. Given another iPhone (or any handheld recording device) could go on forever.
